List down the typical roles of graphic designers mentioned in the videos.
Which part of the role that you’re most interested in? Which one that you’re already aware of, and which one is new?
The roles of graphic designers mentioned in the video are:
Using creative thinking throughout the creative process
Graphic designers need to research and understand the topic or project assigned in order to create several different solutions and outcomes. This applies to creating logos, website designs, and graphics. In the end, it is expected for designers to create designs that are both appealing and functional.
Managing clients and business
It is required for graphic designers to manage the budget and timeline for the clients. It also includes building the clients trust as their design partner. This could be done by exceeding the clients’ expectations. Moreover, graphic designers are required to manage the business tasks, such as overseeing the production and communicating with clients/partners.
Gaining skills and knowledge regarding the technical aspects of design
It includes having knowledge of the design elements, principles, and history, as well as having the skill the use design software or art-making skills. Due to the continuous changes in trends/technology, it is required for designers to keep learning these changes to create the most effective and appealing designs. Designers are also expected to have solid knowledge and understanding of the printing process.
From all the roles listed in the video, I am most interested in using creative thinking skills in the creative process. By using creative thinking in the projects, I believe that there are countless possibilities, which may also bring in and create new ideas. I am also aware that having technical skills and knowledge regarding design elements and software is an essential part of the design process itself. However, managing clients and business is the role I did not expect graphic designers to take responsibility for.
